Suarez's new Romeo and Juliet collection, a dreamy sequel
What has changed? The source of inspiration, Sicily and its most exuberant baroque that replaces the bucolic Verona, cradle of the love of immortal lovers.
Suarez has turned the myth of Romeo and Juliet, filtered with the imagery of Sicilian culture, into amulet jewels that contain as a unique and powerful message: love, a safe-conduct to escape from reality and a password to return to it .
If there is something timeless, it is love because "love is a cloud that floats sustained by a sigh", writes William Shakespeare in 'Romeo and Juliet', the universal love story that continues to enchant the world. The two lovers for whom there are no barriers or human laws turn love into a literary genre that disguises the new and transforms it into magic.
Suarez's team undertook a trip to baroque Sicily to delve into the myth of Shakespearean love from another landscape, like an ancestral liturgy. "The extravagant Sicilian baroque has been the perfect scenery for the development of this sequel" says Gabriel Suárez, creative director of the firm.
THE COLLECTION
The new Romeo and Juliet collection made up of 33 jewels: earrings, pendants, medals and rings made of a mixture of gold with white diamonds and pink sapphires in various shades.
Some unique and special jewels from the collection stand out, such as the pair of rings with round cut ruby of 0.73 ct and 0.86 ct. Also, one of the rings in the collection made with a pink quartz cabochon rarely used at Suarez until now, has been set with a heart-cut pink sapphire.
the details
The three golds have been used in the collection: white gold, rose gold and yellow gold. This mixture of golds requires a complex process due to the need to manufacture the piece in different independent parts for its subsequent union. Some exceptions such as creoles, made in 18-carat white gold with brilliant-cut diamonds.
Other pieces with great detail such as the pendant of the Virgin or the cherubs, designed as a pendant and ring. It is a delicate 3D design process, from which it leads to a careful and meticulous manufacturing process in which it is initially drawn on a wax plate.
