Deporpress Writing | Last Thursday, December 23, a tribute ceremony was held at the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands for island athletes and technicians participating in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Chaired by the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, the General Director of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manolo López, also attended, who recalled that this act is "a recognition not only of the athlete, but also of the Community because we have places that they are incredible, that any athlete, from any part of the world, would raffle it off. Here we have seen 10 boats preparing the sail from October to March that later have been in Tokyo, we have seen runners and a number of athletes who have been in the Canary Islands ».
He also recognizes that “we have the raw material. This leads us to see a number of young people who have represented us in different Olympics, in the world of sailing, swimming, athletics..., but we lack the illusion of being able to have these athletes much longer here, instead If we have them outside, we still have to think about the future to have that facility that can keep the athlete in the Canary Islands and be able to have the talent and the coaches here", he assures.
