Since the arrival of winter in Spain on December 21, the cold and low temperatures have been increasingly noticeable. According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the weather in the coming weeks will continue to present low temperatures, something usual since the average temperature in our country in February is 7ºC. What plans can be made to combat this cold? Without a doubt, spas with hot springs are a great option, especially if they are cheap or free.
Spain is a country of thermalism. The natural resources of our country give rise to open-air spas that are spread throughout the territory, although the community of Galicia stands out above the rest.
In this selection of open-air spas we have included those with the hottest thermal waters, which allow you to bathe and relax in the open air in winter. The contrast between hot and cold water generates relaxation in our body, increases blood flow and cleanses the tissues, among other benefits.
In the spas that we present below you can enjoy these benefits. These are ideal plans to do as a couple or as a family and, in addition, they are located in towns that are worth a visit:
Pools of Arnedillo (Arnedillo)
If you visit La Rioja you cannot miss the town of Arnedillo. This small municipality is famous thanks to the hot springs that come from the Cidacos River. They filter deep down and rise to the surface at a high temperature, specifically at a maximum of 52.5ºC.
They are mineral-medicinal waters that can also be enjoyed for free. The Arnedillo pools are public and free. For those who prefer a more exclusive option, in the town there is also the Arnedillo Spa.
The Caldo River Baths (Lobios)
Ourense is a key province in Spanish thermal tourism. Several of its towns have hot springs, including the capital itself: Ourense. As for its towns, Lobios stands out for its free pool.
Known as the Baños del Río Caldo (Hot River, in Galician), this natural pool is nourished by the hot thermal waters of the river, reaching temperatures of 60ºC. It is a weakly mineralized water, classified as sodium bicarbonate and fluoridated.
Pools of Prexigueiro (Ribadavia)
Another of Ourense's thermal jewels is in Ribadavia, specifically in the parish of Prexigueiro. The Pozas de Prexigueiro are located on the banks of the Cerves River and are surrounded by nature. They are free and are located below the paid thermal complex known as Termas de Prexigueiro.
The private facilities open from Tuesday to Sunday, it is possible to carry out physiotherapy, relaxation and beauty treatments, and they also have a cafeteria where you can eat. The price per thermal session in which its eight pools are visited does not usually reach 6 euros.
