The diamond, emerald cut and color D - that is, completely colorless and the highest grade in terms of color, very rare - is one of the most exceptional ever exhibited by Christie's, said in a statement the head of jewelry at the auction house, Rahul Kadakia. In addition, it is the largest seamless D-color diamond ever auctioned.
It was found in a mine in Angola in 2016 and the original stone from which it was removed was 404 carats. The stone was sent to Antwerp (Belgium) to be appraised and valued, and was subsequently carved in New York by a group of ten specialists who managed to polish a 163.41-carat diamond. The professionals' work lasted eleven months.

Once the diamond was ready, the professionals at De Grisogono devised 50 different designs to show off the precious stone. It was finally decided that the diamond would hang from an asymmetrical necklace decorated with diamonds and emeralds.
The necklace, whose price estimate has not yet been made public, will be exhibited in Hong Kong, London, Dubai and New York before being shown and auctioned in Geneva.
