The first one, presented yesterday to the media, will open the doors to the public this Thursday with 120 works.

He set up a first sample of his collection at MoMA in New York. From 2014 he multiplied loans and began buying works "that transcended the domestic space and were already a museum," says Jaffer. And for that reason, "he began to think of a fixed location for the collection".

The space has three galleries for the collection, composed of 6.000 works, and another for temporary exhibitions

In 2018, the possibility of the Hôtel de la Marine, which had 400 square meters without decoration and therefore outside the visitation project arose.Royal Gauge from Louis XV, Louis XVI decided to gather art tapestries there and teach them to the public on Tuesday per month, between April and November. And thus became the first Museum in France.

In addition to a rent of an annual million euros, for 20 years, the sheikh assumed the cost of the set -up.Three galleries for collections and one for temporary exhibitions, two per year in principle, of different origin. It is explained by Philippe Bénaval, president of the center of national monuments: “To the abundance, diversity and prestige of the Thani collection itself, the privileged relationship that the Foundation maintains with the greatest public and private collections of the whole world is added, guarantee of new samples of the maximum level ".

To "confirm the universal and timeless postulate of the Al Thani collection", the visitor discovers "an open window to all civilizations".In a decoration of Wonderland, with low lights, they align "masterpieces that illustrate human creativity through time and space".For example, an idol Kiliya (the stars contemplator; 3300-2500 to.C.) and a pharaoh head of the XVIII dynasty, sculpted in Jaspe Rojo (1475-1292 to.C.).Both sculptures are cooked with another, that of a bear, a rare example of the Chinese dynasty of the Han (206 to.C.-25), and with a Mayan mask (200-600), "Important, because few pieces of that kind intact".

The faces through the times is the theme of the second gallery, with its eleven sculpted faces, based on different materials and at different times.Impressive man's head in quartzita (2050 to.C.);Another of a Reliquary Fang-Betsi, by Gabon (1700-1850).Majestic, the Bust of Chalcedon of Emperor Adriano, probably sculpted in 1240 and whose head was removed in the sixteenth century over a torso in Bermellón.

Hôtel de la Marine

A very private public monument

The Hôtel de la Marine, from the 18th century, reopened on June 12 after six years of respectful restoration works. After the French Revolution, El Palacete was confiscated by the Navy, the first ministry and headquarters of its General Staff after, until 2015, when it became dependent on the center of national monuments.Arduous controversies were lived on their destiny until they reached the current public/private arbitration, since its two twin constructions welcome other tenants in addition to the chest of taste and its collection, one of the most important in the world.Various companies already have offices, looked at the recoleto patio. And it works, for nomads, a coworking space. The Memory of Slavery Foundation will be installed, on the other hand, in the room in which it was signed, in 1848, the decree of abolition of slavery.A more frivolous anecdote: it nest an office of FIFA, the highest authority of world football, that with the vote among other countries in France, gave the 2022 world tournament ... to Qatar.

Another gallery: "An intimate space, to highlight the precious materials of certain old works", with the exhibition entitled an old treasure.A golden glass, from Iran (1100-900 to.C.), composed of a single gold sheet and a plate of the same metal and silver, which weighs more than a kilo of the Sasanida dynasty (Circa 300) are two of the many jewels of this treasure. The gallery closes with impressive examples of the lapidary art of the Olmecs (Gulf de México, 1200 A.C.), A bend "that will be periodically renewed, with pieces of the collection or new acquisitions".

Another decorated for masterpieces of the lands of Islam, with manuscripts (a blue Quran leaf, of the low Middle Ages, perhaps written in the Cordoba of the Umayya), textiles, ceramics, iron and glass and jewelry jobs and jewelry.A broad sample of the Muslim art set, from the Umayya Caliphate to the Mogol Empire. It also highlights a loan from L-A.Mayer Museum for Islamic Art, from Jerusalem. The first, because a recent agreement with Al Thani foresees "long -term loans, including that of an important work".
