Laura Sánchez: "I'm working on a proposal for Marvel"

The Colombian Laura Sánchez, one of the most important Spanish-speaking YouTubers, is passing through Peru to collaborate with a well-known cosmetics brand. During her stay, she spoke with El Comercio and confessed, among other details of her life, that she is working on a project for Marvel Comics.

“My videos (tutorials) throughout the year are about beauty, which girls can do during the day or night, to go out or for a special event. And what I do on Halloween or what I do with Universal or in movie promotions is to do a transformation or characterization: this is part of artistic makeup, I studied that in Vancouver, "said the 24-year-old professional.

Laura, who studied artistic makeup in Vancouver, Canada, has more than 600 thousand followers on her YouTube channel. In her tutorials, which she and her husband edit, she shows ways to do makeup for women, which are the most common, and dramatic effects related to horror movies and Halloween.

“They taught me everything from day makeup, night makeup, bridal makeup, prom makeup to doing special effects, monsters, blood and zombies. It is what I like the most about having a channel, having the choice and the freedom to present whatever you want,” she added.

After the call from the production company Universal Studios, she collaborated with a tutorial for the film "Krampus" (December 2015), which tells a terrifying Christmas story. This foray into the cinema has opened the doors to other goals.

Laura Sánchez:

“Now I am working on a proposal for Marvel, because I love superheroes and I love that universe. I found a person who had a contact, a representative from Marvel. So I showed him a makeup I did for my husband from 'Beast' from 'X-Men' and another from 'Miss Marvel'. He told me: You have to send me a 'reel', a sample of what you have done, and make new designs, ”Sánchez explained to El Comercio.

Before she came to Peru, she had already considerably advanced the requested compilation, adding new material, which includes designs for the “Mole” and “Iron Man”. When she returns to Los Angeles (United States), the city where she lives, she will finish the video and send it to the producer.

The young “youtuber” opened her YouTube channel five years ago, but she has been posting constantly for two. She finished school at 17 and immediately traveled to Canada, where she finished her studies two years later. After her first post, her followers asked her for more videos until sharing her knowledge with netizens became a habit.

More than beauty In 2015, Sánchez won the MTV Chiuku award for an initiative against bullying, an award from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) with which Shakira, Juanes, David Guetta, Avicii, Paul Van Dyk, Nelly Furtado, Backstreet Boys and more artists. Her campaign consisted of a series of videos encouraging irresponsible Internet users to stop mistreating women. She also showed that women should not feel bad if they are not wearing makeup, encouraging love for their nature.

“I know that my channel is something very superficial and that it is about makeup. But, I really like to teach girls that they have to learn to love themselves, that no matter how much makeup they put on: if they don't feel good inside, they won't reflect it on the outside, ”she mentioned.

She believes that by responding to comments politely, she is contributing to making people think before writing or speaking to cause harm. She believes that the abuse of offenses by 'trolls' can be harmful to some people who are easily influenced and “that is dangerous”.

In the future, she sees herself forming companies or jumping into the world of television. “Going back to Laura Sánchez as a brand, I don't know if it's about makeup, clothes or hair dyes. But, we're working on how to get off YouTube and be broader. You know that it is a social network and this can end at any moment”, she mentions.

Regarding the cinema, she said that she likes it and arouses her special interest, but she thinks it could take up too much of her time if she dedicates herself fully to the production of makeup for movies. She prefers to be a businesswoman to develop more independent topics, that is, that allow her to carry out several projects.

She sent the following message to her Peruvian fans: “I want to say thank you very much for all the support. She had no idea that she had so many followers in Peru. I'm very happy". She met her fans at the Surco Institute of Fashion and Design on Friday afternoon, where she will take photos and sign autographs.

Laura's career is growing exponentially, but she shows herself with the same spontaneity with which she started. She should come as no surprise to her followers that she will soon venture into an even more ambitious project.
