The order in which you should apply cosmetics for them to be effective
By Ores Lario
When we talk about a beauty routine, there is no doubt that it must be personalized. What works for one person does not have to work for another, there are also perfect cosmetics for a specific occasion or circumstance. Much has been written about the importance of having good skin care habits, but according to a study carried out by Farmaconfianza and iDermo, almost half of those surveyed in Spain are unaware of the correct order of application of cosmetics. And on this subject the experts agree: the effectiveness of the creams, serums and oils that are applied to the skin depends on being put in the correct order. Paz Torralba, director of The Beauty Concept, gives us the guidelines on how and when to apply the cosmetics daily and on the face, neck and décolleté. “The most important thing is not to be in a hurry and take the time necessary for the skin to absorb all the active principles and thus the results are better and more effective. Between one cosmetic and another, you must wait as long as the product takes to penetrate the skin so that it can benefit from all its active ingredients.
It is the first commandment to have well-cared, luminous and healthy skin. With this step, essential to ensure excellent epidermal and dermoprotective tolerance, it is possible to "purify the epidermis while respecting its natural balance, provide luminosity, unify skin tone, calm, balance and hydrate", explains Paz, who is in favor of using make-up remover milks rich in active ingredients "and so from the beginning of the beauty routine we are already treating the skin". According to the facialist, soaps tend to dehydrate and wipes "are not the right product in any case." For those who prefer micellar water, "I recommend it for a double cleansing of the skin, because by itself it falls short and does not clean deeply."

“Tone is essential in pre-treatment of the skin, since it serves to complete cleansing and rebalance the hydrolipidic film. With this step we managed to tone and rebalance the skin's functions”, says the beauty expert.
Paz assures that these cosmetics are like food for the skin, “to which we must also give what it needs on a daily basis”. You can use one type of serum or you can customize the routine by mixing several, which for the specialist is "ideal, to give the skin that extra contribution of trace elements, vitamins, minerals...". With serums it is possible to "treat the skin in depth, repair it, oxygenate tissues, reinforce support fibers, act on flaccidity, provide active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or elastin and vitamins that are so important to maintain skin health and prevent aging”, he details.
The structure of the eye contour has very thin skin, it lacks a hydrolipidic film and the tissues are in constant movement, "that is why applying a good product is essential to treat this area to prevent expression wrinkles, revitalize, hydrate, protects and smoothes the skin. No matter what skin you have, this area is the first to show wrinkles and expression lines”, he assures.
As explained by Torralba, who is trusted by names such as Eugenia Silva, Belén Rueda or Teresa Baca, "after the age of 30, cell activity slows down, the skin becomes drier and loses its natural glow" . That is why her recommendation is to adjust the product according to the season of the year to hydrate the skin and protect it from external aggressions. “In cold weather, the skin needs more creamy products that deeply hydrate and protect, and in summer, on the other hand, lighter textures are needed, which prevent excess sweat on the skin. During the day we will put a cream that allows us to hydrate the skin and at night one to regenerate, with other active ingredients and other characteristics ”, he details.
The most repeated mantra by dermatologists and facialists is that there is no better anti-wrinkle than sunscreen. Paz insists on always using it, “both in winter and summer and I like that the cream itself incorporates it so as not to put two products. I only directly apply sun protection when I am going to be exposed to the sun's rays", shares the expert and warns of the importance of choosing a good cosmetic "so as not to have other skin problems, such as excess fat, pimples, or dilated pores ”.
As extras and to maintain healthy skin, the director of The Beauty Center recommends exfoliating weekly or every ten days. "It is a very important step because we prepare the skin and leave it permeable so that any product that we apply afterwards penetrates correctly and acts much better" and once a week you have to apply a mask, "which we will change depending on the skin, the needs and objectives that we set ourselves. With masks we can achieve lightening of the tone, immediately attenuate signs of fatigue, rehydrate the skin, maintain hydration and oxygenation, provide the necessary energy to stimulate cell regeneration and delay the aging process, stimulate skin respiration and revitalize the skin".
