Why is it important to have a neck care routine?

Let's check if your routine is complete: 1) skincare routine, 2) hair care, 3) beard and shave ritual, and 4) neck care. Did you complete all four? We could assure you that the last point you had not contemplated. It is understandable, sometimes we forget that the neck, like the hands, is the other part of the body that is constantly exposed, hence the importance of taking care of it. Next, we tell you the essentials to take care of the skin of the neck.

What characterizes the neck?

The neck is one of the main parts of the body, breathing passes through it, food passes through it, and obviously it supports the head. In addition, it is in constant repetitive movement, which can gradually cause sagging and wrinkles.

“On the other hand, the skin on the neck is much thinner and finer than that on the face, making it fragile and less resistant to external aggression. In addition to the above, the neck has fewer sebaceous glands -essential to maintain the natural hydration of the skin-. Last but not least, there is less production of collagen and elastin fibers in the neck and décolleté area, which are responsible for keeping the skin firm and flexible”, says Cynthia Aguilar, Director of Training for Natura Bissé Mexico.

How to care for the neck correctly?

Before starting to give you the tips, it is important to remember what we mention in almost any note we write about skin care: success lies in prevention and perseverance. If these two words do not exist, it is most likely that you will not see results and only make an expense that you will later regret. With that said, it's time to move on to neck care. To understand them more easily, we divide them into three scenarios: shaving, sagging and wrinkles.

Everything depends on the growth of your beard, but if it covers part of the neck, it will be important to apply the lotion after shaving (also known as after-shave) and the moisturizing oil on the neck, let's not forget that shaving is usually an aggressor for the skin, which causes irritation and dehydration of the same. If you wear your lumberjack style beard, you must make sure that the beard oil does penetrate to the skin (including the neck) in order to keep that area in optimal condition.

Over the years, gravity becomes an uncomfortable -companion-, and the skin of the neck is one of those parts that tend to hang very easily. An excellent help is to apply a moisturizer that promotes the production of collagen in the skin. As a tip, we recommend applying it with upward movements, this will be an extra help to prevent premature skin loss.

Cynthia Aguilar recommends the following: “To improve the rings of Venus or horizontal lines that appear with age and that are somehow also genetically determined, we recommend using a specific cream for the skin of the neck that contains ingredients with tightening and redefining action. In addition, the application of a sunscreen is highly recommended.”

Finally, if you do not want to complicate the care of your neck too much, you can apply the same cream that you use for your face. The important thing is that you don't forget about it, since just like the skin on your face, it loses elasticity, firmness and hydration, and to be honest it is one of the parts -just like the hands- where you start to notice drastically over the years.
