On the morning of Monday, January 17, the remains of two women were found inside plastic bags on the Juárez-Porvenir highway, near the town of San Agustín, in the Juárez Valley, Chihuahua.

These are Nohemí Medina and Julizsa Ramírez. Both were a couple and had three children.

The state attorney's office confirmed the finding, but did not provide further information. Family members have already identified his remains.

Since Saturday, the family reported their disappearance and days later they were found dead.

The Ministry of the Interior, the National Commission for Victims (Conavim) and the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (Conapred) urged the Chihuahua authorities to clarify the murder of the two women, and to take into account their sexual orientation in research protocols.

"Given the report of the discovery of the bodies of the couple in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Conapred and Conavim call to avoid the normalization of hate speech," they said in a statement.

The agencies urged the state and local authorities of Chiahuaha to reinforce public policies to combat lesbophobia and other phobias faced by people of sexual diversity.

For its part, the Network of Lesbian Mothers in Mexico condemned the murders and demanded that the facts be clarified.

Meanwhile, the Chihuahua Sexual Diversity Committee demanded justice for the couple and that what they described as a “hate crime” be clarified.

“It is a fact that we deeply regret and that will not go unpunished. I have just asked the State Attorney General at the Security Bureau to identify these two bodies and to be able to find out what happened,” PAN Governor María Eugenia Campos said when the bodies were found.

“As governor but also as a woman, I have said it and I have promised it, and we have been working on it here in Ciudad Juárez, we are not going to leave the issue unpunished and we are not going to stop working on prevention, more than anything ", held.

According to information from El Diario de El Paso, in the first 17 days of January 2022, nine femicides were reported in the state.

From January to November 2021, 887 investigation folders for femicide were opened in Mexico, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

The State of Mexico led the list with 130 cases, followed by Veracruz with 65; Jalisco with 64 cases, Mexico City with 60 cases and Nuevo León with 57 cases.

In Chihuahua, 42 investigations were opened for femicide. Although the official figures for femicides in Mexico do not reflect the reality of this crime. The way in which the authorities register the incidence of femicides is neither precise nor standardized, which makes it difficult to know the real behavior of this crime and its number of victims.
