Spain's last bag at Euro 2020: make Luis Enrique and choose the 26 who must take to the Euro Cup
Euro 2020 | Spain
Be the coach of Spain and choose the 26 players for Euro 2020
The season is over, the polls are over, the doubts are over. It is up to the national coach, Luis Enrique, to decide which players Spain is going to take to the European Championship. Which and how many, because it is not clear that the Asturian coach will cover the 26 positions that UEFA offers in this appointment to the coaches for the tournament call.
Luis Enrique planned to reveal the squad after the Europa League final but has finally advanced the date of the list and will do so on Monday 24. The coach has several hot potatoes. The most important, that of Sergio Ramos. He also has to decide what to do at right-back, which attackers he's going to pick for the European Championship and there's a chance he'll come up with an unexpected name, though this is no longer a list for warm-up or qualifying matches. This is the European Championship. Play Luis Enrique and choose the 26 who should defend La Roja this summer.
three goalkeepers
In the last call he surprised with Robert Sánchez, Brighton's goal. Will Unai Simón continue to be Luis Enrique's favourite? Will there be a final surprise with the third goalkeeper?
Two right sides
Here the question is whether Luis Enrique will take a single right-back, Jesús Navas, and will use a central defender or Marcos Llorente as possible replacements or if he will take two pure right-backs... there aren't that many healthy left.
central five
With the signing of Laporte, things are tightening for almost everyone else... including Sergio Ramos. Virtually unprecedented in 2021, the captain of the National Team may have a difficult time entering the final list in Spain. Like him, several other defenders are at the limit...
Two left sides
Two players with more options than the rest, Jordi Alba and Gayá, and a good handful of suitors waiting for Luis Enrique to remember them.
seven midfielders
If we don't count Marcos Llorente as a right-back, which is not his ideal position, the rojiblanco is one of the serious candidates to be on Luis Enrique's list for the European Championship. With him, other permanent fixtures of the coach such as Rodri or Busquets and some more unknowns to be resolved.
seven attackers
One of the most competitive positions and in which things are less clear. Gerard Moreno is completing an exceptional season at Villarreal, but his teammates in the Red attack are not at all clear... Ferran is a fixture of Luis Enrique, who has also regularly trusted Dani Olmo. Who would you take to the European Championship?
