The DGT advises against the use of these five baby car seats

The car, the crib, the hospital bag... and the baby car seat. This last element is of vital importance when the smallest of the family accompany us in a vehicle. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) advises against the use of several child seats. After analyzing 27 devices, the European consortium, in which RACE participates, advises against the purchase of 5 of them. Four, due to the low score obtained in the tests carried out and one, due to the harmful substances of its components.

Four of the five that are discouraged are child seats that can be used from birth to 12 years. It has been shown that these types of seats do not protect the newborn (which is normally very large) as well as a 12-year-old child. In addition, the increased weight of the seat makes it difficult to install and increases the risk of making mistakes when using it. These four seats are: Murphy (916) by Lettas, Tres LX by Nuna, Seat4Fix by Chicco and Seat4Fix Air by Chicco. The fifth pushchair is Osann's Oreo 360 II, which only got 1 star in tests because it doesn't meet the criteria for harmful substances.

The worst, one by one

Murphy (916) by Lettas (2 stars)

During frontal crash tests, the shoulder belt caused a noticeably higher displacement of the dummy's neck, as well as a deep cut on it. In the side impact, the dummy's head collided with the vehicle door.

Nuna's Three LX (2 Stars)

The belt caused a cut in the dummy's neck in the frontal crash tests, while in the side impact tests, the results were optimal.

Seat 4 Fix by Chicco/Seat4Fix Air by Chicco (2 stars)

In frontal crash tests, with the CRS positioned rear-facing, the buckle attachment comes off the seat shell. In addition, the car seats move a lot forward, so there is an increased risk of the child hitting their head on the front seat.

Osan Orea 360 II (1 star)

The cover of this CRS does not comply with the regulations on toxic substances, since it contains a type of phthalate (plastic) that can damage the thyroid and pituitary.
