'The exiles of Renau' at the IVAM

This exhibition tries to reconstruct the various historical and creative contexts to which the poster designer, photomontager, muralist and writer Josep Renau had to adapt during his fascinating life journey. The exhibition takes as its main object of investigation two of the lesser-known historical periods within his artistic production: Mexico in exile and communist Berlin.

During his long exile, first in Mexico (1939 – 1958) and later in East Germany (1958 – 1982), his work as a poster artist, muralist and illustrator continued to enjoy a great reputation, especially in political and intellectual circles. that promoted the idea of art as an instrument at the service of the social revolution.

Josep Renau./ IVAM

Since the beginnings of the IVAM, Josep Renau has had a special significance, not only because of his importance as a pioneer of the historical avant-garde in Valencia during the Second Republic, but also because the IVAM was the object, in 1989, of an extraordinary deposit of his works and his archive and personal library. This fund has subsequently been enriched with two other contributions made by the artist's Foundation in 1991 and 1994.

Cycling to the Albufera

A classic and very easy route, although longer than a walk through Valencia, is to go by bike to the Albufera. Starting in the City of Arts and Sciences, this 75-kilometer tour will allow you to see the rice fields and the Albufera lagoon, inspiring the salty aroma of the sea.

In addition, as this route is quite well known, a large part of the path is conditioned for the passage of bicycles, and for this reason it is a route recommended by the Albufera to be done with children. The path is flat and the views of the lagoon are impressive. Also, once there, if you don't want to do the whole route in one go, you can stop to rest at the El Saler picnic areas.
