Top DC 2021

Welcome to the Top DC 2021!A new year begins and is time to take stock of the works read during the previous 365 days.An uncertain period motivated mainly by world pandemic, in which unfortunately we remain immersed, and the social and economic consequences that derive from it.Luckily, we have been able to enjoy the comics of our favorite publisher to abstract from the harsh reality and give rest to intrusive thoughts or thoughts.

As usual, ZN's writing has voted those comics that consider the best of the publisher, dividing the comics between miniseries, regular series and works included in the Black Label adult label. The consensus that was reached within the DC team was to vote comics published in Spain, which have a minimum of travel. This premise has not always been followed and we find some surprise, on the other hand expected by all.

You know that we would love to leave us your ranking of the best of the year in the comments, we want to know your opinion.

TOP SERIES DC

The series in continuity are perhaps the most difficult to assess and is undoubtedly where the most diversified votes are found. That collection that you follow for five or decades due to your taste for the protagonist, can confuse and raise the most prominent mediocre series. Luckily, blood has not reached the river and there is some agreement in the best of the year, also tolerance with personal filias. Thus, Lobdell's red hood or Willianson's flash have taken a vote, and personal tops are inflexible. Another case, more voted, is the Superman of Bendis, an example not only of the inertia that can lead to the character but also that of its author. A very read series (which automatically implies votes) that, without being anyone's favorite, or taking high points, is one of the most constant in voting. The Sandman Universe series are also highlighted by our members, far from that fifth place, occupied by the dark justice league. A collection already present last year at the TOP, whose scriptwriter has not meant a quality decline. Ram V replaces James Tynion IV with the naturalness that is glimpsed in their names, the fifth goes after the room and everything flows like a numerical chain. Great cartoonists such as Álvaro Martínez Bueno, Amancay Nahuelpan, Emanuela Lupacchino, Fernando Blanco, Jesús Merino, Miguel Mendonça or Raúl Fernández have worked in this magical collection that all uses all their resources, highlighting for their originality. Jordi Molinari's favorite.

Fourth place for the king of the ocean, Aquaman, whose publication for seasons does not benefit his visibility, being more erratic in his cadence than that of his fellow format.Deconnick is in no hurry to tell his story, conveniently stopping in the characterization of the characters.Robson Rocha, fluid in the narrative and successful representing emotions, is the most common cartoonist in a collection where Aaron Lopresti, Eduardo Pansica or Victor Ibáñez have been seen, among others.A series that does not enjoy the attention he deserves by the fan in which Aquaman is reformulated and feels interesting bases for the future.Without further delay we go with the prominent positions.

Top 3- Young Titans

The novel team commanded by Robin (Damian Wayne) gets the bronze medal of the regular series of 2021. candidate the previous years, jewels such as the death scripted by Priest and, above all, the joint vote of miniseries and regular series of preceding yearsThey have prevented infant heroes from trying the honeys of success so far.

These Titans written by Adam Glass (replaced in the last numbers by Robbie Thompson) and mainly drawn by Bernard Chang are the best series in many times, poorly group. To achieve such success, Glass, builds each character with dedication, building the plot based on them, combining the concerns and the proceeding of the protagonists with the story that wants to tell so organically that every event feels consistent with the idiosyncrasy ofEach hero.A way of thinking that the sculptor sculptor of zero in the new characters of the comic and develops in the best known, always on a path according to what readers can expect, while surprising for it.Sometimes, classic sagas of the group serve as a starting point, but far from just copying it, he honors the past with its own ambition and ideas.

Bernard Chang has a clean stroke, a great narrative and its pages do not lack details, getting a dynamic drawing with a very good characters design. The artist has a lot to do with the success of these Titans.Sean Chen, Robson Rocha, Eduardo Pansica, Javier Fernando Jesús Merino have also participated in this series.

The resolution of some mysteries may not be as gratifying that the reader expects and the change to finish the collection of screenwriter and cartoonist sour a little the whole, but it is a very good comic, fun and interesting, that achieves the difficult task of interestingby characters without any editorial background. It also has invited stars such as Deathstroke, Wolf or Superboy. If you have not read it and enjoy the Titans, it will not disappoint you.In principle it seems complicated that ECC reissues these comics in another format, but you are still on time, the 3 volumes that comprise the series are still available.Gustavo Higuero and Paulo Hernando's favorite.

Top 2- Nightwing

This year we have been able to read two seasonal volumes dedicated to Batman's first pupil. In them we attend a lost young man, with a new identity and a new life in Bludhaven. Dick Grayson has lost his memory and now it is Ric, a consequence of the shot in the head suffered during the Run of Tom King in Batman. His new friends are a group of police officers (and a firefighter) who disguise a nightwing to combat crime. A new love comes to his life (every series of Grayson, is called Dick or Ric, must have this component) while the batfamilia tries to recover her favorite son. Is the dynamics with the Nightwings team attractive? Barely. Does the trauma suffered add to the protagonist in an interesting personal journey? No, the fault is again from the owl court and the protagonist has an attitude that can remember a prototypical Jason Todd. Is the script inspired by the dialogues? Are the cartoonists of great level? In both fields, many professionals collaborate and none of them are particularly inspired, they seem even torn, assuming the character, nothing veiled, of the transition stage that these numbers have. So how is it possible for Nightwing to be done with the money of this prestigious top?

This year we have also been able to read three staples of the new series of the character, due to Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo. The creative tandem is one of the most joy to fans and their approach to Bludhaven's hero was highly anticipated. The Nightwing regular series promises to be fixed on each monthly purchase and is a firm candidate for an outstanding position in the top of next year. Taylor surrounds an environment recognizable to the character, something that does not guarantee success, much less, at the beginning of the Renaissance it was played with the same concepts of Dixon and McDaniels. That series appealed to nostalgia, but very little worried about building an interesting plot, becoming gradually anodine in each chapter. The Australian screenwriter does not put all the eggs in the basket in these first numbers, but shows that he understands Dick, writing it with success and heart. Roundbruno is magnificent in this title. The dynamism that shows is indispensable for a character like Nightwing, its sequence pages are common and extraordinary, demonstrating its high level and the mimicry achieved with the character he draws.

A series that was not among the candidates, but still obtains a prominent place thanks to the votes of the readers of our writing and some clueless.A comic to take into account and that will give a lot to talk about in the future.Raúl Gutiérrez's favorite.

Top 1- Suicide Squad/ The Green Lantern

Top 1 shared for this 2021. In the Top of 2020 they already appeared as fourth and fifth, weighed by the non -distinction between limited and regular series, in favor of Batman's tomb, Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane.On their plot, these two collections have been the best of DC both in 2020 and 2021, according to the writing of this website. The Taylor and Redondo Suicide Squadron (duo that as you can see in this top, likes, and much)It is a fresh and fun series, with a great ability to count a lot without losing an iota of rhythm.Irony, mischief and humor are shaped hand in hand in a plot that does not stop touching greater depth issues, always being faithful to a suicide squad comic.Another circumstance to value, a loyal comic to the group and its history, but without fear of innovating, as demonstrated by the output of the series in the first issue of the main bastion of the team, Amanda Waller.

New members are recruited by the special force X, characters skillfully built by Taylor who give interest a diverse and diverse group that you want to know more in each chapter. As the series progresses its virtues look diluted, without losing what places this collection at the top of the podium, how fun it is.

Round does not stand out so much in this work as it does in Nightwing, but its high qualities are very present. With a good page detail, he stands out at the time destined for runaway action and in the design of characters, defining them with recognizable elements to each of them.Daniel Sampere also participates in the stage, very successful in his work. The vibrant color of Adriano Lucas is a signal signal of the comic, outstanding in his task.A very well avenue artistic section that complements perfectly with the script.Román's favorite of Muelas.

Recently, the publication in Green Lantern Saga of this stage by ECC has been announced, a good opportunity to get it for all those who did not follow it month by month or deny the clip in favor of the volumes. The Green Lantern is an irreverent series, continuous darts are thrown into the publishing house and at the future of their comics. Morrison is critical of the company that pays her and has no look at her, and that they have given Hal Jordan to do whatever she wants with him, the series could well be out of continuity by not interfering at all in the universe canonical dc. He authors him to have his own plot to surrender to his imagination, creating countless worlds and races of exotic creatures, in which he stops enough, giving them voice, motivations or his own dialect. The inventiveness is not only from the script, the cartoonist Liam Sharp evolves in this second season by coloring himself, radically changing the appearance of the comic and representing even more originally all the scenarios that Morrison poses. A couple of geniuses inspired with overflowing creativity.

The first season of this collection was excellent. The interlude between seasons, with Sharp by taking a break and xermanic replacing it (great work done by the Spanish) was very fun. This second season is not so brilliant. Morrison was cryptic to some extent in the previous chapters, achieving a great balance, the plot was accessible that it is not simple, but from the number 20 or 21 it stops worrying about the lucidity of its readers and adds the series in a sway of universes , beings and plots that make it very difficult to be able to follow a comic that you will have to dedicate a considerable effort of concentration, making it more than niche and specific of the author's unconditional followers. In the two final numbers he relaxes and turns towards the more conventional conflict. The feeling when you finish the Run, is that you have read something unique, deserving the penalty. A large collection, worthy of any shelf, the cult stage of the green lantern of the silver age. The favorite of Ángel García, Pablo Menéndez and Enrique Doblas.

TOP MINISERIES DC

The limited series is the place to explore the characters outside the continuity (less and less strong) of the main universe. Series that proliferate in DC, both the editorial and the authors like these publications, the company because they are usually profitable and the artists because they can tell the story they have in their head without the restrictions of a cohesive cosmos. Although, as the top has been divided, they are not so many in this section since those made under the Adult Black Label seal are not included. Flash: The union makes the failure takes a vote, a very conventional story that presents the entire Lore de Barry Allen with a certain attraction for those not initiated, although the occasional editor liked it. Batman/ The Maxx: Arkham's dreams is tied at points with Giant's flash. The creation of Sam Kieth teams with Gotham's bat, being a surreal comic and surely very enjoyable by The Maxx followers. At the gates of getting into the drawer we find Brian Universo by Brian Michael Bendis. Cleveland's surprises with the approach he makes of the bat in one of his best contributions to DC, with a superhero batman immersed in a multiverse trip. Nick Derington, in charge of drawing, is spectacular. Román's favorite of Muelas.

And our Top of Miniseries of 2021 is ...

Top 3- dcsos: Dead planet

Tom Taylor reappears in this top, it's already the third time.On this occasion, Trevor Hairsine is accompanied as a Gaudian cartoonist and Stefano to color, to tell us the future (and in the final principle) of the nightmare universe where the antivide equation infects the heroes of DC without control.

The series is a Gore Festival, although this does not imply that it is done without justification, delivered to viscerality and violence, but with an important heart component.

Far from official continuity, anything can happen.Taylor embraces the circumstance and delivers shocking events, always with special attention to the characters, engine of a plot in which the antivide equation is an excuse to place them in a really difficult position in which to take them to the limit.A limit that is perfectly represented thanks to the force of characterization and the overwhelming dialogues that the suicide squadist's screenwriter knows how to write that the interest in each and every one of the surviving heroes is total and absolute.Without the special attention paid to the characters, the comic would be one more within the enormous (already less) zombie production. With the invaluable work of Trevor Hairsine that he knows how to create all the necessary impact on his vignettes, of a powerful visual invoice when they must and worked and detailed in quiet times.

DCSOS: Dead planet is a festival of action, drama, sacrifice and heroism as only Tom Taylor can get.Raúl Gutiérrez and Pablo Menéndez's favorite.

Top 2- Wonder Woman: Earth One

Morrison also repeats and does it by writing to the Amazon par excellence.Yanick Paquette draws with Nathan Fairbairn as colorist.

Wonder Woman: Earth One is a comic where feminism inherent in the character since its creation acquires an important place, with Diana as a feminist leader of pacifist ideals. She Authors takes the opportunity to play with the injustices of society, promote interesting debates and enhance a Wonder Woman that we are not used to reading. The text is brave, without tapujos, Morrison expresses everything he means without any fear of hay that he sure generates. He is also very respectful of the protagonist, whom he fits on each occasion available, representing an impressive target in all aspects.Morrison, as usual in him, recovers enemies or classic elements by joining them with the modernity that gives off a very interesting work by capturing the collision between a society entirely feminist and another traditionally governed by men.

Packette has a sensational design of female characters. Her target is strong, courageous, sensual, beautiful, optimistic and kind and not only the script shows you like this, a splendid drawing is very blamed for the perception that is obtained from the woman. The halago is extensible to the portrait of the rest of Amazonas or some villain. She also stands out in the representation of Unathesmyscira spectacular. The attention to the detail that the cartoonist and the appropriate color of Nathan Fairbairn make make the art of the book a delight.

A series to discover that another vision of the world spits to your face by raising very necessary scenarios and questions. With a spectacular art, it is a collection very much to consider. The favorite of Jordi Molinari and Gustavo Higuero.

Top 1- Superman: Up in the sky

The best DC miniseries for ZN is starring the first superhero in history.Absent in the top of last year (without the presence of the Kriptonian, but of its secondary ones) the character stands with the gold medal thanks to the intelligent extolling of his values that Tom King performs, which we already advanced, this will not be his onlyAppearance in the top.

Under the Giant initiative, comics for a massive audience in Wallmart, the story must have a simple and clear script.Circumstance that King takes the opportunity to focus on Superman's humanity, whom he portrays sublime. In addition, the treatment of the action is good and according to a hero such as Kriptonian, as it should be, but the author of Batman/Catwoman has not always known in this aspect, the treatment of the epic carried out in heroes in crisis in crisisor his stage in Batman attests to him.In this comic he overcomes his own tropes to fulfill in all aspects of it.Spectacular pages, rawness, some novel detail and a rough superman is what the artist presents us, colored by Brad Anderson, a renowned professional who brings all the trade and good work of him.

A Superman comic as it should be, an unexpected jewel within an editorial initiative looking for new readers.Without pretensions, knowing everything that makes its protagonist special, King and Kubert give a job at the height of the heroes. The favorite of Ángel García and Paulo Hernando.

TOP DC BLACK LABEL

It is the adult seal of DC where, a priori, find comics with a proven quality. Editorial line that allows its authors to play with the characters, in Jim Lee's words they commit to "the highest levels of creative freedom." Since its creation in 2018, Black Label has settled in the market, being followed by staunch Dcitas and also by those who approach certain works, interested in their authors, premise or the possibility of acquiring a good self -conscious comic of that character they like so much. The truth is that seeing production that character must be Batman. It is true that this year has monopolized fewer black labels, luckily. The Hill House Comics horror stamp (under the Umbed of Black Label) has not penetrated enough among our editors, the family of the dollhouse and deep down from the forest, they get some point, but they are not of majority taste. Nor Sweet Tooth: the return that, or does not like or excites, being Raúl Gutierrez's favorite. The spin-off of the Murphyverso with Katana Collins and Matteo Scalera taking care of a Harley Quinn mother, dazzles several of the voters, but does not reach the fifth place occupied by the very recent Batman: the impostor, it seems that there is a desire for the New Battinson movie ... Fourth position for Hellblazer: Ascent and falling, staying Taylor at the doors to play metal again. Román's favorite of Muelas.

Top 3- Batman: Three Jokers

Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok with Brad Anderson (which repeats in a prominent place of the TOP) perform a work controversial by the reminiscences he has of Alan Moore's murderous joke, in the same way it occurs with Doomsday Clock. Both mostly like the members of the negative zone by placing this three Jokers on the third step of the podium.

The comic has a measured script, given to the development of characters and intelligent dialogues, but also with hard and captivating moments. The comic explores the consequences caused by the Joker in Batman and his surroundings, especially in the two characters most harmed by the insane clown, Batgirl and red hood in which Johns puts many efforts, getting the second Robin to be tragically attractive.

Jason Fabok uses a much more classic line than we have accustomed to us, being the magnificent result. The representation of the faces of the protagonists, to which he dedicates the convenient nuances to each situation, is superb. So is the design of his characters, such as drawing, classic and timeless air.He does not forget to work very detailed funds that put the icing on an excellent art that does not feel uncomfortable in the predominant 3 × 3 of the work.Brad Anderson uses red as a groundbreaking or characteristic element of the Joker. He phenomenally ambient each scene, Gotham and all his locations look so well thanks to the atmosphere achieved.

Johns has almost never especially characterized Batman and usually leaves him in the background in choral stories. Therefore there is some urban legend that tells that the author of the JSA does not like the bat.In three Jokers he demonstrates perfectly understanding it, embarking on an exciting history of horror, psychology and violence. She is not the favorite of any of the editors but the second of many.

Top 2- Rorschach

Tom King and Jorge Fornés dare to play with, probably, the most charismatic character of Watchmen, Rorschach. The deep anger that invades it, the feeling of revenge, an insatiable search for truth and an unparalleled charisma place that of the mask, hat and gabardina as one of those characters that we all remember.A myth that, sooner or later, would be your own series.Few profitable assets are not exploited by a company.

This comic will disappoint those who wait to find a plot focused on a character similar to the original. Its authors flee from all comparison and create their own series. The former CIA uses elements common to the world he writes but following his, always immovable, his personal path. That is why he forgets Watchmen elements that initially come out as a wink to the reader to later contribute interesting ideas about the world after the attack of the giant Calamar.

Jorge Fornés is brilliant in the conception of the pages. The 3 × 3 is not predominant, contrary to what could be thought of a work that refers to Moore's work, also written by King, a habitual tasty grid.Fornés narrates in a slow way, alternating very well the preeminent scenes of the past and present.A classic style that helps a lot to the perception obtained from the comic, fabulously representing the noir and giving the feeling of being before a classic of the ninth art.Dave Stewart enhances all virtues with an appropriate majority color palette of pastel tones.

Rorschach is an interesting, raw and moving at times, black novel with marked political dyes that, due to their precious narration, characterization of unique characters and excellent drawing, convinces the members of Zn.The favorite of Ángel García and Enrique Doblas.

Top 1- Strange Adventures

Another first place for Tom King. This time accompanied by Mitch Gerards, with which he will work at the Sheriff of Babylon or Mister Milagro. The acclaimed creative tandem is joined on this occasion, Evan Shaner, without dazzling at all and being an important part of the pleasure provided by the comic.

It is possible to see Strange Adventures as a spiritual continuation of King's previous works, where a compendium of his screenwriter's experiences and concerns is represented and an attempt to, in the words of the author himself, “develop the abyss between myth and reality”Strange Adventures is almost as centered in the family as Mr. Milagro and almost as concerned with exposing the horror of war as the Babylon Sheriff.King measures the importance of different plots perfectly, mastery all the present elements. While exposing interesting reflections such as when he questions how much there is real in the statements of the winner of a war, whose speech always revolves around human values and peace.Of course, this new series is perfectly Leible by itself, being an excellent entry point to meet its winning authors.

The drawing is responsible for Mitch Gerads and the reader thanks that his partner to the script leaves the structure of 3 × 3 vignettes.Without such a rigid composition, the artist shines on pages as simple as an specimen firm in a bookstore, sensationally portraying people who access the galactic writer.A superb Doc Shaner takes care of the war scenes on the different planets where it happens, making a very good exploration of the unknown worlds, giving them personality. An extraordinary artist duo.

All King virtues are exposed in the comic, attractive pen, a perfectly calculated structure, a marked author character and an enigma to solve. With a great treatment of Mr. Terrific, Strange or Alanna, the comic is an essential. The favorite of Jordi Molinari, Pablo Menéndez, Gustavo Higuero and Paulo Hernando.

So far the review of the DC ranking resulting from the voting of the members of the negative zone.A top that leaves us to Tom King (three appearances), Tom Taylor (three appearances), Grant Morrison (two appearances), Bruno Redondo (two appearances) and Brad Anderson (two appearances) as the great victors of the year.

In the past Magazine DC we asked readers what they thought about the production of the publishing house in 2021 through a survey. The options were "it could have been better", "little passion I have seen", "fatal, they do nothing well" and "absolutely great."The most voted option has been "could have been better" with the extreme valuations ultimately in a technical draw, both the most enthusiastic and the most pessimistic.Pulling a little of this thread, with the intention of generating a healthy debate ... are the works of this top than last year?Wonder Woman: Dead Earth or Strange Adventures?Lois Lane or Superman: Up in the sky?How many of these comics will become reissued in 30 years?

With this top we closed the exercise of 2021, a new season begins that we hope is loaded with good comics.Happy New Year to everyone!
