Betanzos convinces in the Xuventude Crea 2021. With Inés Cortizas Vázquez and his collection "Kukú", third in the fashion of Jewelry design. A category attended by nearly 30 artists from all over Galicia. With only 23 years and a unique style, the creator confirms the excellent health of a trade specially linked to the region, with the town hall of Bergondo as the epicenter of the extraordinary Xoiería das Mariñas. What does this distinction of Xuventude Crea 2021 mean? It is a recognition that gives value to my work and gives me motivation to continue creating pieces of this style. And the 'money' is not too much either, as jewelry is a very expensive trade, tools, machinery and materials are very expensive, it is very difficult to start from scratch. What was it inspired to create this collection, "Kuku"? I was inspired mainly by retrofuturism and subcultures such as dieselpunk and steampunk, which are characterized by combining a demodé aesthetic with advanced technologies, showing a dystopic vision of the future. It is a fusion between the old and the modern, criticizing the great advancement of technology and the dehumanization of the species. I did a retrospective of fashion, economy, consumption and social crises to this day, always looking into the future. The pieces combine traditional jewelry techniques and materials with contemporary design. The sight, the listening and the speech are filtered, referring to the barriers, the damage, the dark and hidden of each one of us.

How do you value the situation of new artists like you at a time of crisis like the present one? I think my generation has eaten all the crises, we Don't know what it's like to live outside them. We live in a constant crisis in which there are many stimuli, overproduction and excesses in every way. It is very difficult to make room in the trade in art and crafts, you have to have a distinctive seal in what you do and move a lot, luck is also an important factor. The mythical of being in the right place and timing. When and why did you decide to dedicate yourself to jewelry design? Studying high school and being a complicated and unstable moment of my life, I didn't know very well what to do. I had done a couple of fashion related courses, one in styling and the other in patronage, so I decided to do the fashion design access tests, I got a good note but I stayed on waiting lists. Then I thought of other possibilities, a few weeks later the tests for access to artistic cycles were called and without any idea of jewelry I found it interesting and decided to do them. My surprise was when I saw that I was top on the charts, so I went into the cycle with a lot of excitement, I loved it from the very first moment, I enjoy working with metal and design I'm passionate about. I would also like to dedicate myself to both and merge the two works. What challenges do we face in the future? with a view to the near future, I hope to set up a workshop on my own, or if I may be able to associate with other artists who have similar interests, I do not close either. To start selling at fairs or online seems to me the most realistic. In fact, I just opened my own professional profile on Instagram (@ inescortizas). Then, creating high expectations, I think pieces of the style of this "Kukú" project could make a hole in audiovisual productions, music, fashion or performance.
