In patient care, all aspects are important to offer a comprehensive service. In the case of terminal or highly serious illnesses, palliative care is necessary due to its impact on quality of life. For its part, now the General Health Council (CSG) made an important announcement. It agreed to modify the agreement by which it declares the obligatory nature of comprehensive palliative care management schemes, as well as the processes indicated in the Guide for the comprehensive management of palliative care in pediatric patients, published on December 14, 2016.

In the Second Ordinary Session 2021, held virtually and chaired by the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela, in his capacity as president of this collegiate body, it was reported that the institutions that make up the National Health System have a deadline of end of January 2022 to report on the care they provide to patients with chronic pain and the permanent application of palliative medicine they provide to the adult and pediatric population.

The technical secretary of the Commission for the Certification of Medical Care Establishments of the General Health Council, Raúl Anaya Núñez, referred to the certification process as a necessity and axis to put at the center the safety and quality of service to patients. .

He pointed out that, in the development of this model, certification must be seen as a means and not as an end, with the purpose of standardizing processes based on best practices and international criteria; reduce risks and process variability, as well as give a proactive approach to decision-making in medical care.

The secretary of the General Health Council, José Ignacio Santos Preciado, announced the progress of the Comprehensive National Policy for the Management of Chemical Substances and the action program for immediate application to control exposure to lead.

Among the proposals, it is worth including the monitoring of lead exposure in the National Health and Nutrition Surveys (Ensanut), which will be carried out from 2022, and the implementation of a pilot system for epidemiological monitoring of lead in blood in girls and boys. children under five years of age and in pregnant women who are treated in first-level units of the Ministry of Health, in some regions of the country.

Likewise, it was reported that work continues to prepare the modifications of NOM-199 SSA1-2000, Environmental Health. Blood lead levels and actions as criteria to protect the health of the non-occupational exposed population.
